A major league source just informed me that the Cleveland Indians are looking at Boston Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell as their next manager.
The Indians announced the firing of Eric Wedge yesterday, saying he would finish the season guiding the team this weekend in Boston.
Farrell has garnered a lot of accolades from Red Sox [...]

Last week we were Monday morning quarterbacks. This week it is Tuesday.
Here are five observations from Sunday’s 26-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons:
1. Offensive line wants Fred Taylor over Laurence Maroney.
That was the “code” we got from comments made by a few Pats offensive linemen, who went out of their way to commend Taylor’s effort [...]
When is a football team in charge but not really in charge?
The pats lead 16-10, and are going in again, as we end the third, yet it doesn’t quite feel comfortable.
Atlanta has stopped themselves, bad drops a fumble, a phantom interference call.
Some pitiful work by the men in stripes today.
Atlanta has been hit with 5 [...]
Vince Wilfork rolls an ankle, that’s bad news, but not the worst news because Dline is the Pats’ one legitimate area of depth.
Have to issue some serious questions to Atlanta coach Mike Smith …
The Jets attacked Brady into submission, and Atlanta comes out and plays soft cover 2???
Matt Ryan is shredding this secondary and you [...]
Put Fred Taylor in the game, and pound him until the old man can’t go anymore.
He carries 4 times for 41 yards on the Pats first TD drive as New England takes charge 10-3.
As i said in this morning’s Eagle-tribune. This is Taylor’s offense now. Maroney is the backup, so are morris and Faulk and [...]
I’m not sure if Atlanta can stop New England, especially rushing three and four guys from conventional sets.
Of course, I know the Pats aren’t going to stop the Falcons.
Why such stubbornness giving us all kinds of laurence Maroney??
Why?
Turn Fred Taylor loose.
Another red zone squander for the Pats, who went o for 3 in TDs there [...]
Today’s games
NEW ENGLAND 34, Atlanta 27 … Pressure on offense to produce
N.Y. JETS 16, Tennessee 13 … Not sure which team is overrated
HOUSTON 31, Jacksonville 20 … Texans might be decent
PHILADELPHIA 23, Kansas City 20 … Will come down to end
BALTIMORE 31, Cleveland 3 … Ravens “D” due to show up
N.Y. Giants 20, TAMPA BAY [...]
Hector Longo’s here, Bill Burt’s here, Randy Moss is here, Wes Welker isn’t …

OK,
So Welker probably is here, but he’s just not in uniform.
Here are the rest of the Pats inactives:
Jonathan Wilhite, Darius Butler, BJGE, Jerod Mayo, Rich Orhnberger, Kendall Simmons and Prescott Burgess.
One quick thought … All three tight ends are active, including Michael Matthews, that plus the weather, plus no Welker, probably equals a grind-em-up attack [...]
