Scot Pollard looks like a banker

Sure Paul Pierce picked up his ring to chants of “MVP”, but Scot Pollard looked the most stylish, sporting a gray suit. He may be out of a job, but he can dress.
Seriously, Pierce was the most interesting to watch pick up his ring. He looked like he was in a haze, sorta overwhelmed by [...]

Packed to the rafters

Gotta give this crowd credit. A “Let’s go Celtics!” chant 15 minutes before the festivities even began.
Ayla Brown just belted out a great rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The Otis Air National Guard Honor Guard presented the colors.
A pretty sweet tribute video, which began with a Red Auerbach interview, just played on the JumboTron.
The [...]

Hello Cleveland!

The Cavs will not be joining the Celtics during the ring ceremony. It’s not exactly a controversial decision, but hey, this is the pregame.
“First of all it’s long,” a sympathetic Doc Rivers said. “Secondly, they’re giving us what (the Cavs) want. So yeah, I have no problem with that at all. I agree with LeBron [...]

Live from The Garden

Fans are pouring in already. Like true Bostonians, the majority of them are sporting fancy new merchandise. Plenty of 2008 NBA championship T-Shirts and hats around.
Got a look at the special edition jerseys. Traditional white. Green letters and numbers with gold trim and a patch to mark the occasion. It’s similar to what the Red [...]

10 observations from sports world

Here are a few thoughts about a busy sports world, particularly around here:
1. The Giants are No. 1.
Give the defending champs credit. They are a very good football team in a mediocre league. They go to Pittsburgh and beat the Steelers badly in the fourth quarter with the game on the line, this despite issues [...]

Remembering Red

Tuesday marks the two-year anniversary of Red Auerbach’s death. I only met him once, at a book signing at our shared alma mater, George Washington University, but I’ll always remember it. This was back in 2004. He had just turned 87, but was still sharp as a Ginzu.
GW athletic director Jack Kvancz, Red’s long-time friend [...]

T-Minus 28 hours…

A few more things about Tuesday night’s season opener to note:
The ring ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:38 p.m. The game is set to tipoff at 8:02 p.m.
Former Celtics John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, Tommy Heinsohn and M.L. Carr are slated be in the house.
“I’m going to soak it all in, enjoy it,” captain [...]

NBA 2K9

Check out David Willis’ look at the 2008-09 Celtics roster.
His power rankings as well.
Health Point in Waltham is hopping again. The Celtics are holding some sort of press conference to celebrate the team’s Massachusetts scratch ticket. It hasn’t exactly created the same kind of buzz coach John Thompson’s appearance did Friday (He was here taping [...]

Come with KG if you want to live

If you have a few minutes, check out my story from today’s Tribune on Kevin Garnett.
A ton’s been written about the guy, and rightfully so. But what struck me was that everybody I talked to made a point to say that his energy, intensity, obsessiveness about basketball — whatever cliche you want to use — [...]
