Talking about practice

I was unable to make it to Waltham today, but here are a couple updates.
Paul Pierce tells The Globe that Boston’s second-half defensive effort will carry over to Friday night’s matchup with the Bulls.
There’s some good audio over at Perk is a Beast.
Some leftovers: Ian Thomsen’s piece on opening night. Good reading. As is Paul [...]

Your chance to join the media…

For the younger readers in the Merrimack Valley and beyond, I recently got this release from Comcast. It might be worth a shot:
Have you ever dreamed of covering a big league game? What about covering the reigning NBA Champions? Comcast SportsNet, in partnership with Comcast, is offering the opportunity of a lifetime to any middle [...]

The next month will settle football debates

There has been much football discussion on our Web site regarding the balance of power in the Cape Ann Small. I’m not complaining — that’s what the comment section is for. To me, though, there’s not much room for argument. The standings show tw…

Patriots-haters weekend is on tap

You have to check out the big sports radio talk station in Indianapolis’ Website (www.wnde.com). They are waiting, breathlessly, for the Patriots to come to town and somebody from the station has dedicated a few dozen hours (my estimate) on basically hating the Patriots.
Some of it is funny, but some of it borders on crossing [...]

The morning after

It’s one game in, but we learned something about the Celtics last night. Even the most worthy distractions are no match for them (so far).
Pomp and circumstance played tricks on ‘em early, but it didn’t end up mattering.
“Guys were over pumped up,” center Kendrick Perkins said.
Then, they turned it on, once again stifling an opponent. [...]

Not bad, young fellas

A lineup of Leon Powe, Eddie House, Ray Allen, Tony Allen and Glen Davis might not strike fear in the hearts of NBA teams, but it’s doing the trick right now.
At 8:48 in the third, Powe’s dunk put the Celtics up 76-68. That capped a 9-3 run.
Tony Allen has nine points, and nearly converted two [...]

Going batty

Cavs 50, Celts 43 at the half. The score from “The Dark Knight” is playing. OMINOUS.
LeBron James is the NBA’s version of the tumbler Bat Mobile from the movie (NOTE: A friend just pointed out that Boobie Gibson has the Batman logo shaved into his head). Scary big and scary fast. He has [...]

Cavs have the upper hand

After one, it’s Cavs 28, Celtics 22.
Boston seems to be coming alive after falling behind by double digits early.
Leon Powe and Kendrick Perkins helped keep ‘em in it, cleaning up on the glass. Perkins had four boards in the first.
LeBron was his usual self, contributing six points and four assists. He also added a thunderous [...]

‘You never know if this day’s gonna come’

Paul Pierce just addressed the crowd. In his version of an Oscar speech, he thanked everybody in his life, including his mom, brothers, Scot Pollard (for the 6 a.m. workouts at Kansas) and last but not least, Red Auerbach.
Short and sweet.
Finally, tipoff.
