NFL Guy is trying a new format this week. Just brief reports. Let me know if you like this better. I hope to be back later this week to do the same with the headlines of the week.
BROWNS 13 – STEELERS 6
I told you the Steelers were overrated. But if the Browns keep Mangini, they deserve to keep losing. Good night to pretty much the same team that was lucky to win the Lombardi Trophy last year.
CHARGERS 20 – COWBOYS 17
Coach Wade Phillips is correct, the media did create the story that Dallas can’t win coming down the stretch. It was evidenced in the way he was completely out-schemed by the Chargers’ Norv Turner.
SAINTS 26 – FALCONS 23
The wins are coming harder for the Saints, but they should blow through Dallas, and go into the second season undefeated. Atlanta has had so many injuries that it’s difficult to really gauge the team this year.
PACKERS 21 – BEARS 14
Green Bay is really heating up now, as Chicago phones it in. Massive changes must occur in the coaching and front office for Chicago to become competitive by the time their most famous fan, President Obama, runs for re-election.
COLTS 28 – BRONCOS 16
Don’t let all the hype fool ya, Peyton Manning is not the man you want behind center in the second season. But I am sure he will find someone new to blame – again. As for Denver, the slide began a little earlier this year.
BILLS 16 – CHIEFS 10
Buffalo will clean house at the end of the season, trying to land Mike Shanahan. Careful what you wish for Buffalo. KC is still seasons away from success, though they have shown a pulse from time to time.
VIKINGS 30 – BENGALS 10
ESPN must be glad they ran all those stories on the free-fall the Vikings were heading into. The second best team in the NFC disposed of a worthy opponent easily. Cincy QB Carson Palmer must find his mojo and quick, or they will be out of the playoffs right away.
PATRIOTS 20 – PANTHERS 10
The Pats struggle to beat a bad team, as Randy Moss zombie-walks through a game. He has never had the best attitude, but this was really something. QB Matt Moore continues to make a case to be the face of the Panthers for the next decade. Time will tell…
JETS 26 – BUCCANEERS 3
No one bullies the weak like the Ryan family. Of course any team that is anywhere decent will crush the overrated Jets without much trouble. Hard to say if the coaching staff remains in Tampa, but I doubt it.
DOLPHINS 14 – JAGUARS 10
A huge setback for the Jags, as it looked like they were heating up. Miami is the un-Dallas, playing top ball when it counts the most. If the Pats aren’t careful, the Fins might just take the division.
RAVENS 48 – LIONS 10
Even for Detroit this was bad.
TEXANS 34 – SEAHAWKS 7
Too little, too late for the other team in Texas not going anywhere next month. Both Seattle and Houston could have new coaching staffs come next September.
TITANS 47 – RAMS 7
Even for the Rams this was bad.
WASHINGTON 34 – RAIDERS 13
So Oakland is heading in the right direction, eh? As I’ve written, Washington has nothing to lose, so they are very dangerous. Still, the coaching staff will be gone, especially if they can grab Mike Shanahan.
EAGLES 45 – GIANTS 38
The Eagles do what they do very well, take the division from Dallas late in the season. They’re not very good, but really neither is the overrated NFC East. New York continues to fade away, which is not like them.
49ERS 24 – CARDINALS 9
Much like in the Super Bowl last year, the Cardinals blow a perfect opportunity to put things away. This time it is just the division, and not the Lombardi Trophy. Seven turnovers? That’s not gonna get it done, now is it?
