FAVRE’S WORD MEANS NOTHING
When asked several months ago by reporter Ed Werder if he would never play again, Brett Favre responded: “I can say that, there is no way.”
Here we are again with Favre now flirting with the Vikings, once again yelling: “Look at me!”
We went through this soap opera last year, after the teary eye grizzled vet said goodbye for the first time. And now there is little doubt he will return, as ESPN is reporting his agent Bus Cook is already looking for a tailor-made QB coach for this sad, overrated player.
(Overrated? O yes. Favre played in an era of dynamic QBs and finishes at the bottom of the list. There is no argument to make me believe he was better than his contemporaries Aikman, Elway, Marino, Young, and even Esiason).
So now we must endure, yet again, Favre having everyone look his way as he tries to exact petty revenge on the Packers for replacing him after he was far past his prime. Last year he was on the Jets, started strong and faded when they needed him the most. (He “fades” a lot in the clutch – 2007 NFC title game anyone…)
Jets RB Thomas Jones blasted the QB after the season saying Favre was aloof, hung out in his own office, and wanted little to do with the rest of the team. He also threw costly interceptions at critical times coming down the stretch, dashing the Jets playoff hopes.
But more than this pettiness we get a true picture of what this man really is: a self-centered pro athlete who just cannot stop having people look at him.
Last year sullied his reputation in the NFL and in Green Bay, where he was revered, and now he is tarnishing it even more. He might tell you he cannot let the game go, but I doubt it.
We know one thing more than anything else about him, don’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth.
Brett Favre’s word means nothing.
